Stewarding Our Water Resources: Solano Artists Create, Collaborate, and Educate
Arts Benicia’s mission is to stimulate, educate, and nurture cultural life in Benicia, primarily through the visual arts. This community-based non-profit organization provides exhibitions, educational programs, and classes that support artists and engage the broader community.
Project Description
Arts Benicia aims to involve regional artists, primarily from Solano County, in a media outreach campaign focused on water conservation and climate mitigation in California. The campaign will feature original artworks and educational exhibitions across Solano County, including displays on SolTrans regional buses and traveling public showcases. Social media will be utilized to share educational materials and artworks. Concurrently, an exhibition on the history of water in Solano County will be held at the Arts Benicia gallery in November 2023, alongside another exhibit titled Properties of Water. In April 2024, an exhibition of original artwork by Solano County artists will be displayed within the community to coincide with Earth Day, with venues including the Benicia Public Library, Temple Art Lofts in Vallejo, and sites in Fairfield. A small team of artists will guide the project, incorporating local input and collaborating with organizations such as the Solano Resource Conservation District and the Solano Land Trust to gather educational materials on water conservation and climate mitigation. These materials will inspire artists to create original works, which will be featured in exhibitions accompanied by public events designed to engage visitors with the theme of water conservation and climate mitigation.
