Imagining Utopia: A Media Outreach Project in Collaboration with Artists Experiencing Homelessness

Broad Room believes that art is a human right and everyone deserves access to the tools, resources, and space they need to create. We are building an equitable future in the arts by removing barriers to creative tools and space through a radical redistribution of resources.

Project Description

Our project, "Imagining Utopia: A Media Outreach Project in Collaboration with Artists Experiencing Homelessness," falls under social justice and community engagement. Inspired by the prevalence of dystopian narratives in American media, we aim to imagine a better future through media outreach. Drawing from Vienna's social housing model, we will collaborate with neighbors in the Camp Resolution homeless encampment to create billboards and posters envisioning a future where everyone has safe, affordable housing in North Sacramento and Del Paso Heights.

Centered on building community solidarity for affordable housing, our campaign focuses on accessible artwork across four primary forms: billboards, posters, artwork displays, and a documentary. The billboards will be visible daily, posters will be distributed for free, and an unveiling event will showcase local artists' work. Sharing the documentary on our website and social media platforms will further amplify our message, reaching a broader audience and fostering engagement in our community.
