The essence of Black Girlhood
Justice2Jobs is a coalition of criminal legal analysts and advocates pursuing racial and economic justice by rejecting punishment bureaucracy and advocating for transformative systems that advance economic opportunity. They focus on participatory justice, using restorative practices to center voices with lived experience and creating solutions for equitable and inclusive neighborhoods.
Project Description
With this project, we aim to empower and heal Black women and girls through a public education campaign culminating in a multi-media art exhibit highlighting the marginalization and harms of Black girlhood. This project includes creating healing communities and documenting lived experiences through various art forms over several months. It begins with Story Circles to gather oral histories, which artists will transform into a communal narrative depicted in the exhibit. Involving at least 30 artists, the project focuses on addressing adultification bias, criminalization, and the suppression of voices and identities within families. By leveraging storytelling and artistic contributions, we seek to educate diverse audiences, humanize Black girls, and address the trauma impacting families and communities.
