American River Conservancy
RIPE Area

American River Conservancy (ARC), founded in 1989, safeguards the upper American River and upper Cosumnes River watersheds through land conservation, stewardship, and education while acknowledging and engaging with the ancestral tribes of the Miwok, Nisenan, and Washoe people in El Dorado County.

Project Description

As a play on "riparian," RIPE AREA is a groundbreaking art project to promote community engagement through the arts in EDC around water and native habitats. Leveraging ARC’s expertise in conservation and stewardship and partnering with Myrtle Tree Arts (MTA), RIPE AREA offers participatory art and learning focused on the vital role of water, deep ecology, food, and cultural survival. RIPE AREA’s art forms are storytelling, poetry, songwriting, musical performance, native habitat design, visual arts, and native plants for arts, crafts, and food.
